📺 Lunch Break: Anita Waltho – "Trash" Talk and Creativity

Science and art have a lot in common, at least when you look at it from Anita Waltho's perspective. In the second episode of “LUNCH BREAK“, she talks cellular trash, creativity in science and Berlin-Brandenburg's lakes.

As a PhD student in biochemistry in the lab of Prof. Thomas Sommer, Waltho’s research aims to unravel the complexity of the ubiquitin code – the labelling system which our cells use to decide the fate of our proteins.

€700,000 boost for preeclampsia research

Preeclampsia is one of the most common pregnancy-related complications. Florian Herse of the Max Delbrück Center and Martin Gauster of the Medical University of Graz are studying the role that Hofbauer cells play in the disorder. They have been awarded a D-A-CH grant totaling €700,000 for their research.

Captain T Cell secures seed financing round

Captain T Cell, a spin-off from the Max Delbrück Center, raised €8.5 million in startup funding. The startup focuses on developing T cells to target solid tumors. The funds are intended to move a new generation of T cell therapies towards the clinic.

The surveyor of cellular proteins

Fabian Coscia combines mass spectrometry at the single-cell level, artificial intelligence, microscopy and robotics to search for the proteins in cells that are responsible for serious diseases such as cancer – and that can make them resistant to therapies. His hope: to save lives.
